FAQ

What is a hackathon?

A hackathon (also known as a hack day, hackfest or codefest) is a design sprint-like event in which computer programmers and others involved in software development, including graphic designers, interface designers, project managers, and others, often including subject-matter-experts, collaborate intensively on software projects.

Am I invited?

Anyone that is currently a college student or that has graduated in the past year is invited. High schoolers can go ahead and apply and we'll notify you if any problems come about.

We will be holding workshops throughout the year for students to immerse themselves into the world of hackathons and technology. These workshops will be held by industry professionals and members of our team, who will teach new and upcoming tools that assist with web development, mobile development, and more.

What should I bring?

Bring your student ID, laptop, chargers. A pillow and sleeping bag may be useful as well. Please leave anything illegal at home.

What if this is my first hackathon?

Awesome! We have prizes for newcomers, as the best way to learn is by building. There will be mentors to help you every step of the way. We all start somewhere, why not here?

How long is it?

You will have 24 hours to build but we will also have opening and closing ceremonies as well as the project expo. Prepare to spend your weekend with us starting Friday night and we’ll have you out around midday on Sunday. A more detailed scheduled will be released closer to the event.

How much does it cost?

It is free for all admitted participants. Don’t sweat it! We will provide your WiFi, meals, caffeine, swag, and workspace for the entire weekend.

How do teams work?

Teams have a maximum of 5. If you don’t have a team, no sweat, we will have a mixer for you to discuss ideas and meet other hackers to join forces.
